compass

it was just clear that the south were the better team. gosh some really hard tacklers - umaga, schalk burger... initially it was a bit scrappy and i was like oh no is this going to be a relatively lousy match because they're not playing for their respective countries and don't want to get injured etc.... but then it got entertaining. and i suppose for such a match, that's all that really matters. good money raised too.

.

i jammed my right thumb a bit, so that it's very sore now - looks slightly bruised and swollen, it had better not be chronic that's all.

otherwise it was a very one-sided match, my side was made up of more experienced players from actual clubs, while the other team were made up of another uni. they made me captain and let me take home the trophy, just 'cos i "came all the way down from central london", haha. oh well i'm not complaining! :)

though i didn't particularly enjoy captaining a bunch of strangers, especially when they all knew one another really well and it was obvious that they had their own real captain around. what can i say, it's getting better, but i'm still shy and awkward... getting better at tackling (haha lame pun) the cultural differences, the british dry humour, making fun of people without actually making fun of them... and still.

i couldn't help but think of blacks as i played alongside these club players. just the club camaraderie, the actual skill ('running-at-pace-onto-the-ball', for a start - i don't see this here often), the laughter...

.

woah i'll be back in singapore in a couple of weeks, that's just scary for multiple reasons. looking forward to it though!

ok i'm going to the supermarket to spend more money - transport costs have been killing me softly this week.
