split

and from the unlikely topic of marriage, we move on to - ha - childbirth

OH.MY.GOD.

it's 9 o'clock in the evening, flatmate teh and i are barely recovering from watching life before birth, a documentary on channel 4

we had our mouths wide open and hands plastered (90%) over our eyes as we witnessed a full-on hair-peeking-through-the-v*gina (don't want any google pervs to end up here) 100% real childbirth scene that was at once disturbing, breathtaking and absolutely fascinating

with every stretch of the opening, teh and i shrieked in absolute horror, unable to calmly absorb what we were viewing. the midwife literally pried the baby out while the mother stood in agony - yes this was a standing childbirth, which is supposed to use gravity more effectively and produce less painful contractions

it was an incredibly raw real and also moving scene, frightening yes but also knowledge is power no?

it's also excellent that the british tv watershed applies only strictly to sex and violence. back in mon pays d'origine i think this would only have been allowed on screen after midnight - and that's if the viewers are lucky - nevermind that its content is in fact wholesome and educational, if albeit a tad bloody
