because i'm wandering

so it's no secret that i have been to paris a disproportionate number of times

but if there's one aspect of paris that i haven't explored to my satisfaction, it's the food

yes, i've been to paris maybe 4 times in the last 3 years. it surprises me that i have always ignored the reputedly delectable cuisine that paris has to offer, prefering instead to grab a takeaway baguette sandwich while on the trot to the next musée

thus, when i visit paris in end-may (for probably the last time in awhile; this excessiveness has got to stop!), it will be largely for gastronomic purposes. on my part at least. though i'm sure jx will put up little resistance if i were to suggest that we get north-african pastries from bague de kenza

or maybe some macarons from gérard mulot?

but what i really really really wanted to eat last week was

char kway teow. in all it's oily fried glory. i am hardly ever homesick but my cravings for comfort food overwhelm me sometimes. hell, i didn't even like eating char kway teow back in sg! besides craving or luak (fried oyster egg, mmmm!) and chai tow kway (fried carrot cake) majorly (notice there is a "fried" theme here - my approach to sg food has always been, "eat first, drink tea later"), there is one dessert that i just can't get out of my mind -

or-nee, warm yam paste with gingko nut. how not to love the thick consistency yet velvety smooth texture of good or-nee, the sweetness of the yam envelopping tastebuds.... apparently, it's a dessert fav of teochew people - that would explain :)

ok i shall stop now

seen in a french magazine recently:

l'avenir ressemble soudain à un grand point d'interrogation. il va falloir envisager seule ce qu'on avait commencer à deux
